Innovation in the automotive field has always been intriguing and there have been plenty of innovative features added year after year, especially in the premium/luxury car segment helmed by Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo.
A lot of car enthusiasts or people who can afford these brands may be aware of these features but there a lot of other people who haven't noticed these amazing advancements in the past decade.
Here are five of the coolest features in the past decade (2010-2020),
Cars that recognise traffic light changes and count down until the next green light
Audi first brought Traffic Light Information (TLI) to production vehicles in 2016 which tells drivers how long until the next green light and also tell you fast or slow they should go to get to the next green light, all in one system. This would be so useful when you are in a hurry to get somewhere and you plan your speed and route just about right to get to your destination in the most time-efficient way possible.
Sensors that learn your driving style and can detect when you’re too tired to drive
Car companies like BMW and Mercedes-Benz have sensors that learn how you drive and alert you to pull over and take a rest when you start swaying or being reckless. Needless to say, this is a great innovation when it comes to road safety that can be useful to reduce accidents to a great extent.
Built-in night vision and radar detection for avoiding objects and wilderness.
Car manufacturers like Audi, BMW, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz developed actual night vision dashboard systems that work with sensors and allow you to see wildlife like deer or other objects in the complete dark.
Automatic High beam adjustment avoid blinding everyone else on the road.
BMW and Audi’s laser-powered high beam systems crank the brightness up high when there’s no one in front of you and dim themselves when there’s cars. This technology is one of the most useful innovation that not only provides safety but gets rid of the annoyance of driving with high beam lights flashing at our faces while we're trying to focus on the road.
BMW i-Drive with Gesture Control
BMW’s i-Drive multimedia control system in the 2016 7 Series can be operated on a touch-free basis purely by hand gestures, with the use of a small infrared camera on the dashboard. For example, a driver can rotate an index finger near the screen to adjust audio volume, or point at it with two spread fingers to tell the navigation system to plot a course home. If a call comes in via a Bluetooth-paired phone, the driver can point a finger toward the screen to answer it or wave his or her hand to the right to dismiss it.
Conclusion on the coolest car features
While all these innovations are fascinating and sound futuristic even though we're past that decade, we'll have to wait and see just how many more amazing innovations might be added this decade as we head into the future that might bring a lot of technology thought only possible in science fiction into reality. Until then!
